5/27/26- Grays 9 - Isotopes 1
The Grays broke open a 1-0 game in the top of the 4th inning by scoring 4 runs off of Isotopes starter Gary Webber. Tim Sigda got the inning started for the Grays when he hit an absolute bomb to left center for a solo home run. A few defensive miscues and hits by Jay Sadowski, Steve Powers, and Chris Bernacki led to 3 additional runs in the inning. Weber pitched all 7 innings for the Isotopes, and pitched much better than the final score indicated, striking out 8 batters. Scott Dunaisky was solid at the plate with 2 hits for the ‘Topes. Ken Hartwright was awesome at the plate for the Grays, going 3-4 with 3 RBI.
In addition to going 3-3 at the plate and hitting a dinger, Sigda was masterful on the mound, pitching 5 innings of one-run ball. The right-hander struck out 6 hitters and went on to get the win for the Grays. Chris Bernacki pitched a scoreless 6th, followed by Dave Rist, who closed out the game in the 7th.
The Grays have a big battle on deck next week versus the first-place Phillies, while the Isotopes will face off against the Plug Uglies.
5/28/26- Wonders 4 - Plug Uglies 3
Facing each other for the first time this season, the Wonders weathered excellent pitching from Uglies' starter Bill Evans to come from behind and earn the W on the backs of Wonders' pitchers Chris Ciepiela, Bob Mastorakis and new Wonder TJ Hillard.
The Uglies struck first in the bottom of the second with back to back singles from Mike Olkin and Chris Scanlon to make it 1-0. The Uglies' pitching and defense remained strong and their offense tightened the Wonder noose with two runs in the bottom of the third. Singles by Nolan Anaya, Jeff Whitehead and a Wonders error led the scoring to make it 3-0 Uglies.
The Wonders finally saw an opening in the top of the fourth as Brett Constantine led off with a single and stole 2B, and then Tod Garfield broke the seal with a 2-bagger to make the score 3-1. Both teams went quietly in the 5th inning with excellent pitching by both Evans and TJ Hillard.
In the 6th, the Wonders knocked in three crucial runs to take the lead for good at 4-3. Chris Ciepiela started the top of the sixth with a single and Brett Constantine laced another single to put two on with 1 out and then a fielders choice induced by Tod Garfield to make the score 3-2 with two outs and still two on base. Dan Alvord came to the plate with a mission and he won the battle by roping a double down the left field line to give the Wonders 2-runs and a 4-3 lead. The Uglies' threatened in the bottom of the 7th with 2 singles by Eric Bennet and Uglies' skipper Chris Scanlon, but the Wonder defense and closer TJ Hillard shut the door to preserve and earn the win.
Wonder Highlights-
Terrific relay from Tod G to catcher Steve Higgins to force out a would be run by the Uglies.
Doubles by Tod G and Dan Alvord, along with 2 singles by Luis Beveraggi and a single by Steve Higgins led the Wonders' offense.

Uglies' Highlights-

5/28/26- Phillies 3 - Fainting Goats 2 (8inn)
Yami Baker’s RBI infield single drove in the go-ahead run in the 8th and then Miguel Ringler’s spectacular diving catch in RF squelched the Goats’ comeback attempt in a thrilling 3-2 victory at Mitchell on Thursday night that featured great pitching, scintillating defense and horrific baserunning.
The winless Goats faced the undefeated Phillies in what, on paper, appeared to be a mismatch. However, southpaw Tom Salvini kept the Phils’ powerful bats off-balance all night. The Phil's junkballer Ken Sloat matched Salvini inning-for-inning, and both teams’ defense sparkled.
Salvini induced 3 IF groundouts in the first, and his team answered with a single run in the bottom of the inning. With 1 out, Tom Conway laced a single to LF, and top draft pick Shawn O’Grady bashed a double to deep CF. Conway then scampered home on a wild pitch. However, Sloat notched a K and a groundout to strand O’Grady at 2nd.
Each team threatened over the next four innings, but seemed to be emulating the Red Sox, lacking the RBI hit with runners on base. There were 2 double-plays in this period: Goats’ 2B Gerald Santiago raced to his right to grab a line drive and double off Micah Winston from 2B who was running on the pitch in the 4th, and then Phil's 1B Colin Hosley grabbed a screeching liner off the bat of Don Edwards and doubled Jerold Duquette off first.
The Phillies finally broke through with a pair of runs in the top of the 6th. Andy Klepacki and Matt Witek both walked, and then the crafty Conway relieved Salvini. Jim Fogarty laid down a perfect sacrifice bunt, and after a walk to Sloat, John Wills lofted an RBI single into RF. Paul Kaplan then hit into a fielder’s choice with Witek forced at home, but the throw to try to complete the double play at first sailed into RF and Sloat raced home.
In the top of the 7th, the Phillies looked to add to their lead, but SS Eddie Esposito made 2 spectacular plays, diving to his right to grab Miguel Ringler’s liner and then racing back into short LF to make an over-the-shoulder catch at full speed to end the inning. Catcher Jerold Duquette erased Winston, who had singled, for the 2nd out, with a perfect throw to 2B when Winston tried to advance on a ball in the dirt, with 2B Don Edwards making an acrobatic leaping tag.
With the lead, the Phillies opted to bring in flamethrower Colin Hosley for the save in the bottom of the 7th, but it was not to be. Conway reached on a throwing error, and then O’Grady decimated a full count pitch into deep RF for an RBI triple. With the winning run on 3B and no outs, Hosley got the dangerous Jeff Burniske to bounce a ball to 3B Paul Griswold, whose strike home to catcher Witek erased O’Grady. Hosley then sandwiched 2 groundouts around a walk to send the game to extra innings.
With Stephen Malachite beginning the 8th on 2B, Griswold grounded out to 3B, with Malachite advancing on the play. Baker then beat out a slow roller to SS for an RBI infield hit, but after a walk to Steve Youngberg, he was immediately picked off 2B by Conway/Edwards on the old hidden ball trick, to squelch the Phillies’ rally.
The Goats started the bottom of the 8th with Edwards on 2B and he advanced to 3rd on an IF groundout. Esposito then roped a ball down the RF line that Ringler raced over and grabbed at full dive. Edwards was half-way down the line, sure it would drop and was unable to advance before Ringler got the ball back in. Hosley then induced a groundout to 2B to preserve the win.
The undisputed stars were the starting pitchers:
Ken Sloat: 6 IP, 6 H, 1 ER, 5 K, 1BB
Tom Salvini: 5+ IP, 3 H, 1 ER, 2 K, 3 BB
