2026 Summer League Results- Week 6

6/3/26- Phillies 10 - Dorian Grays 10

The league’s top 2 teams met at Landers Field on a steamy Wednesday night, with the Grays hoping to inch closer to first place, and the Phillies vying to put some breathing room between themselves and the dangerous Grays. With both teams fielding a skeleton crew – the Grays had 9 players, and the Phillies had 8, with 2 subs, the result was a thrilling back- and-forth game that featured 5 outs at home, including runners being cut down at the plate to end both halves of the 7th.

The Grays started Chris Bernacki, while the Phils, missing their 2 aces, sent John Wills on the mound for his first appearance of the year. Both teams put multiple runners on base in the 1st, but couldn’t score.

The Phil's struck first in the 2nd – with 2 outs, Miguel Ringler singled and then scored when substitute Wonder, Andy Ayres, reached on an error. Wills set the Grays down 1-2-3 in their half.

The Phillies went up 2-0 in the top of the 3rd. Winston singled, advanced on a WP and groundout and scored on Paul Griswold’s sacrifice fly. However, the Grays exploded with 3 runs in their half. Following a scintillating diving catch in LF by Ayres, successive singles by Tim Sigda, Steve Cole, Jay Sadowski, Bernacki, John Malikowski and David Poppie brought in 3 runs, and it could have been more, if not for CF Micah Winston’s throw home to nab a runner at the plate.

The Phils immediately knotted the game at 3 in the top of the 4th . Andy Klepacki singled and after advancing on a wild pitch and single by Wills, scored on a groundout by Ron Totten. The Grays answered with a run of their own when Sigda walked with 2 outs, advanced on a wild pitch, and scored on an infield error.

Down 4-3, the Phillies took advantage of a tiring Bernacki and some sloppy D to tally 5 runs. Ayers led off with a single, advanced on a passed ball, and scored on an RBI single by Stephen Malachite, who stole 2nd. Griswold walked, both runners stole, and then with 2 outs, Klepacki smacked a 2-run single. He then stole 2B and came around on 2 wild pitches. Consecutive walks to Wills, Totten and Ringler heralded relief pitcher Steve Cole, who allowed a weak IF grounder that turned into a run-scoring error.

Ayres relieved Wills in the 5th, up 8-4, but after getting 2 easy outs, walked a pair of batters and then allowed run-scoring singles to Matt Kostek and Sigda.

Cole quickly fanned the side in the top of the 6th. Winston followed Ayres on the bump, making his first pitching appearance of the year. He immediately allowed singles to Cole and Sadowski, but Bernacki grounded to 1B Malachite, who threw home to nab Cole. However, Malikowski reached on an error, allowing Sadowski to score and then Mitch Gaslin stroked a 2-run single to give the Grays a 9-8 lead.

Down to their last AB, the Phil's leaned on the red-hot Jim Fogarty, who dropped an opposite field single into LF. Klepacki then reached on an error and stole 2B. Following a K, Totten dropped a single into short LF over the drawn-in infield, and Ringler singled in another run. However, following a FC, Ayres reached on an error, and Ringler tried to catch the infield sleeping but was thrown out at home by Bernacki to C Tim Tremblay.

Winston strolled out to the mound in the bottom of the 7th, hoping for the win, but allowed a lead-off single to Sigda, and with 1 out, Sadowski lined a single the other way. Bernacki then rolled a grounder to SS where Klepacki tossed to 2B Wills for the force out, but the relay to first for the DP was too late. However, 1B Malachite fired home to Totten, who tagged out Sadowski, the potential winning run, to preserve the tie.

The Phils 10 team runs were scored by 8 different players in their lineup!

6/4/26- Fainting Goats 14 - Wonders 4

The Goats deservingly earned their first win of the year in impressive fashion with solid pitching from Goats starter Tom Salvini (complete game). With some key players missing from the Wonders, the Wonders were unable to mount any major offensive threats against Salvini. Meanwhile the Goats offense secured the win with a 6 run 7th inning, key hits throughout the game and capitalizing on some Wonder miscues.

6/4/26- Isotopes 12 - Plug Uglies 2

What had been a scoreless pitchers' duel between the Isotopes Gary Webber and the Plug Uglies Jeff Whitehead for the first three innings changed dramatically in the top of the fourth as the Isotopes plated eight runs on the way to their first victory of the season by a score of 12 to 2.

The offensive outburst continued in the fifth inning as the Isotopes put up four more runs, before the Uglies got on the board with a pair of runs to narrow the margin.

Webber picked up the complete game victory and helped out his own cause by picking up a pair of hits and scoring three runs. John "Sully" Sullivan led the 'Topes hit parade going 3 for four and earning a walk, but had the green light taken from him on the base paths against lefties as he was picked off multiple times. Shortstop Ed Cauley banged a pair of doubles and all Isotopes reached base at least once.

Whitehead and Rob Eccleston were the most effective pitchers and hitters for the Uglies, with Eccleston providing a defensive gem on the mound, snagging a line drive back to the box like a goalie in the Stanley Cup Finals.

The two teams meet again next Thursday at Landers Diamond in South Hadley to make up a previously rained out matchup.
