7/10/26- Fainting Goats 3 - Dorian Grays 22 (6inn)

7/11/26- Isotopes 2 - Plug Uglies 5

7/11/26- Phillies 15 - Wonders 5 (6inn)

The Phillies exploded for an 11-run (8 with 2 outs!) 6th inning to break open a close 5-4 game for a 15-5 win over the Wonders in 6 innings.

The game began as a pitchers’ duel between Chris Ciepiela of the Wonders and Ken Sloat of the Phillies, featuring some sharp defense by both teams, and timely hitting by the Wonders.

The Phillies loaded the bases in the top of the first on a double by Micah Winston, an infield single by Paul Griswold, and HBP to Matt Witek. However, Steve Youngberg’s looping ball (not high enough to call an infield fly rule) dropped out of 2B Dan Alvord’s glove as he raced to catch it, and he alertly picked it up, tagged the runner and 2B for an unassisted double play, with Winston scoring in the process. In the bottom of the first, the Wonders hit 3 long fly balls to LF, 2 of which were snagged by Griswold, and the 3rd, dropped for a double for Tod Garfield, but couldn’t score.

The Phillies threatened in the 2nd with a pair of walks, but 3B Brett Constantine’s scintillating grab of Stephen Malachite’s hard grounder over the 3B bag turned into a force out at 2B, and then CF Andy Ayres made a nice running catch to end the inning. The Wonders took a 2-1 lead in their half of the frame. Jose Nieves led off with a single, and after a fielder’s choice and an IF error, Luke Cavagnac hit a long fly down the RF line, that Jim Fogarty tried to make a sliding catch on, but it dropped in for an RBI single, and Ciepiela followed with an RBI single as well.

Ciepiela put down the Phils 1-2-3 in the 3rd, with LF Luke Cavagnac making the first of his 2 fine running catches in the game. The Wonders increased their lead to 3-1 when Ayres blasted a 1-out RBI triple to deep RC, scoring Garfield, who had walked. However, Ayres was stranded at 3B, after Alvord walked, then LF Miguel Ringler made a juggling catch of a line drive off the bat of Kevin O’Grady, and fired to first to double off Alvord who had gone on the pitch.

The Phillies took a 4-3 lead in the 4th. With 1 out (on Cavagnac’s 2nd great catch), consecutive walks to Youngberg and Andy Klepacki, and a single by Fogarty loaded the bases. Sloat followed with an RBI FC to SS, stole 2B, and then he and Klepacki scored on Stephen Malachite’s double to the LC gap. Not to be outdone, the Wonders took the lead right back, plating a pair with 2-out singles by Nieves and Bob Thorp, and a throwing error put runners at 2nd & 3rd, and then Ciepiela and Bob Mastorakis both stroked RBI singles.

The Phillies tried to manufacture the tying run in the 5th, but Constantine gobbled up Ringler’s bunt and fired to first to beat him, and then after Winston was HBP, catcher Steven Higgins fired to 2B Ciepiela who slapped the tag on him just in time as he tried to swipe 2nd. John Wills relieved Sloat on the mound for the Phillies and quickly set down the Wonders 1-2-3, while making a nice play to race in and grab a dribbler in front of the plate for the third out.

Bob Mastorakis relieved Ciepiela in the top of the 6th, but the Wonders plan backfired, as the Phillies bats awoke and went to town. Witek led off with a walk, Youngberg singled, and Klepacki laced an RBI single. Walks to Fogarty and Sloat loaded the bases for Malachite, who stroked a 2-run single for a 7-5 lead. The next 2 batters got out, but then the roof fell in. Ringler lined a 2-run single, Winston hit an RBI single and advanced to 2B on an error, Griswold hit a 2-run single, Witek walked, and then Youngberg hit a mammoth blast to deep CF, legging out a triple before running out of gas. Klepacki singled him in, before Fogarty finally grounded out. The Wonders tried to mount a comeback, but nice plays at SS by Youngberg, and Winston in CF shut them down. Higgins singled, but Wills induced a pop out to end the inning. With the run differential at 10, the game was called after 6 innings.
