7/28/25- Uglies 9 - Grays 5

The Grays hosted the Plug Uglies at Landers Field in South Hadley, with Greg “G-Bomb” Elbaum going for the Plugs against Chris “Nacho” Bernacki for the undefeated Grays. The game featured stellar defense from the Uglies against the hard hitting Grays.

The Uglies were aggressive right from the start. Bill Evans singled and quickly stole second. Nolan Anaya and Matt Boulanger followed with two more singles to load the bases. Jeff Whitehead drove in two runs, followed by an Elbaum 6-3 sacrifice that plated another run.

In the second inning Uglies third baseman Jeff Cabana walked and reached third on two passed balls. Jon Adolph singled to knock in Cabana. The Pluglies added another run in the third inning when Anaya was hit by a pitch and eventually scored on a Whitehead sacrifice. 5-0 Uglies after 3 innings.

In the fourth inning the Grays got on the board with an RBI single by Tim Trombley, driving in Tim Sigda. They added an additional run in the fifth inning when Mitch Gaslin singled, stole second and scored on a Tom Bombard single. Sigda drove in Bombard to make it a 6-3 game.

With Sigda pitching in relief for the Grays, Evans and Anaya continued their 1-2 combo with singles, with Evans scoring on a passed ball. Another RBI single from Whitehead scored Anaya, with Whitehead later scoring on a bizarre passed ball play from third. Rob Eccleston walked and and scored, putting the Uglies up 9-3.

In the bottom of the sixth Evans relieved G-Bomb and the Grays struck again. Tromblay and Gaslin both singled, followed by Bernacki walking. Gaslin scored on a passed ball, and with two outs Bombard drove in Tromblay to put the game back in reach, 9-5.

Whitehead came in to pitch for the Uglies in the seventh and proceeded to hit the first batter, but the base runner was soon out on the field choice. Tim T hit into a 6-5-3 double play and the ball game was over.

The Plug Uglies finished the regular season at 6-5, while the Grays lose their bid at an undefeated season but wrap as the #1 seed going into the playoffs.

7/28/25- Phillies 13 - Isotopes 6

In a game that took place in 2 parts, separated by over 3 weeks due to rain, the Phillies took a 5-1 lead into the bottom of the 3rd before stoppage and then outscored the Isotopes 8-5 in the 2nd part for a 13-6 win.

Colin Hosley started on the mound for the Phillies, vs. Dave Warner for the ‘Topes. The Phillies jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the 1st when Micah Winston singled, advanced on an error and scored on Hosley’s RBI groundout, and then Paul Griswold, who had reached on an FC, came around on Andy Klepacki’s single.

The Isotopes won the 2nd inning 1-0, when Scott Dunaisky walked, stole 2B and came around on an infield error. However, the Phils immediately tacked on a 3-spot in the 3rd. Stephen Malachite, Griswold and Hosley singled to load the bases with 1 out and then Klepacki brought 2 home with a single, and another scored on an error.

With 2 outs in the bottom of the 3rd, the rain and lightning came, play was stopped and eventually postponed.

In this weeks continuation, Hosley returned to the bump, closing the third inning on his first pitch for a 6-3 putout. The Isotopes, playing 2 games this week and hoping to save their top pitchers for the 2nd game, brought in David Leslie to throw. Unfortunately his control was off and the Phillies scored 7 in the 4th. John Wills was HBP and stole 2B, Ron Totten walked, Miguel Ringler singled to load the bases, and then Winston was plunked to walk in the first run, Malachite singled in a run, Ringler scored on an error, and then Hosley cleared the bases with a line drive 3-run double to right-center. Gary Webber relieved and allowed 1 run, when Klepacki was HBP, stole second and scored on an error.

The Isotopes could have given up, but didn’t by scoring 1 in the 5th when Webber singled in John Sullivan, and adding 4 in the 6th off Phillies reliever Ken Sloat. Warner led off with a single, Dunaisky launched a monstrous double to left-center, Leslie reached on a throwing error that scored Warner when he slid under the tag. Emilio Chaverri loaded the bases by reaching on a dropped 3rd strike, Terry Randall’s sac fly scored Dunaisky, and then Sullivan capped the inning with a big 2-run double.

Dave Warner came back to pitch and neither team scored in the last inning. The Phillies celebrated their clinching of second place and a first-round bye while the Isotopes are set to battle the Wonders for 4th place and home field advantage in the 1st round.

7/30/25- Wonders 5 - Goats 4

INNING 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 R H E

Goats 0 0 3 0 0 0 1 4 5 1

Wonders 3 0 0 1 0 1 X 5 7 2

Wonders defeat The Fainting Goats by a narrow margin at a hot and steamy Landers Field in South Hadley. Joshua Weiss, Goats left fielder, had the best web gem of the game, while in the bottom of the 4th inning, robs Wonders shortstop Patrick Olearcek of extra bases with a terrific running catch near the left field foul line. Goats pitcher Tom Conway stole an infield hit from Wonders catcher Steve "Higgy" Higgins to end the same inning. He jumped to his right off of the bump to corral a softly hit grounder, then, fell on his backside and made a perfect throw to first base, while sitting down to end the inning. Goats turned two double plays to The Wonders one, to make the game close. It was a classic game to decide either fourth, fifth or sixth place. If the Goats won, they would have finished 5th place and The Wonders would have finished 6th place. At the beginning of the game, 10 year veteran John DeVecchi, who was playing his last game in our league, was honored by throwing out the ceremonial first pitch with both teams lined up on the First & Third base lines.

Tony Dismukes 1 inning

Tom Conway 5 innings

Chris Ciepeila 5 innings
