Week 6: Plugs Stun 'Topes, Grays Blast Phils, Wonders & Goats Postponed

Jay Sadowski waits for the pitch from Ken Sloat Thursday night at Herlihy Park.

Plug Uglies 15

Isotopes 2

WP: Jeff Whitehead

LP: Gary Webber

The last two times these teams met were in the Championship game last summer and on Opening Night 2022, with the Isotopes dominating both contests. The Plug Uglies, hoping to change that script, came out swinging on Wednesday night.

Isotopes starter Gary Webber, dominant in those two games, met a team that got on base early and often with bunts and line drives. Along with crafty baserunning and stolen bases, the Plug'lies scored 11 runs in the first two innings, adding 2 in the 4th and 2 in the 6th.

It was a team effort with Jeff Whitehead (4-4, 2 RBI, 3 runs) and Morriss Partee (3-4, 3 RBI) leading the Plugs' offensive outburst.

On the mound Whitehead held the Topes to 2 runs over 6 innings with 6 Ks, with Greg Elbaum closing it out in the 7th.

Dorian Grays 15

Phillies 2

WP: Chris Bernacki

LP: Ken Sloat

The Dorian Grays' offense exploded for six runs in the first to jump out to an early 6-0 lead over the Phillies Thursday night at Herlihy Park. The Grays came out swinging; 6 of the first 7 batters reached base safely and scored in the inning.

Chris Bernacki was sharp once again, holding the Phils' offense to 4 hits over 6 innings and striking out 5.

The Phils responded with a solo run in the bottom of the first, but another big inning from the Grays, a 5-run outburst in the third, put this one out of reach.

Tim Bombard and Don Edwards paced the Grays offense combining for 6 hits and 4 runs scored.

Ken Sloat and "Miracle" Max Strubel pitched for the Phillies.
